Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (covering the south and western suburbs) has reported a 76% home sales increase in the Chicago suburbs in November from the same period 1 year ago.
This report was based on activity measured in about 120 southern and western suburban communities through information from Midwest Real Estate Data LLC.
The leaders in the home sales are Aurora, and Hazel Crest. In these areas as well as Oswego, first time home buyers, attempting to close before the then November 30th deadline, have made a large contribution. This credit has since been extended.
Standouts in the south suburbs of number of homes sold are Burbank (217% increase from 1 year ago), Oak Lawn (129%), Posen (100%), and Tinley Park (178%).
In DuPage County, home sales were highest in Addison (950%), Aurora (112%), Glendale Heights (567%), Hinsdale (82%), Naperville (75%), and St. Charles (165%).
Home sales activity has also been up in the western Cook communities of Clarendon Hills (117%), Hickory Hills (100%), LaGrange (100%), River Grove (75%), and Westchester (100%).
There was also a dramatic increase in the number of homes under contract (up 63%).
It must be noted that the housing market was so bad 1 year ago, that the increases are a showing of improvement, and not as great as it seems. However, signs of improvement are encouraging. Let us hope that this trend continues into 2010.
